Style How-To: Black and White for the Summer

During the summer, we tend to pull out all our bright clothing items. From hot pink crop tops to floral shorts, color is all over the place. Some times we just need to tone down that color for nights out or days you just don't want to look too flashy. Black and white are my go to colors for this point. You can make them look super cute and polished during the summer time. It may seem difficult to wear black and white during the summer time but I'm here to help you with that.

When wearing black and white during the summer, emphasize more on the white so you don't get super hot. We all know that black can attain so much heat so try only one or two piece of your outfit that are black. Stick to white for the rest of your look. Find a white piece with a black detail or pattern. Also, don't be afraid to play with patterns. Pair a pair of black shorts with a patterned white short or a polka dot shirt with a pair of high wasted white shorts. Patterns can make black and white more unique. With that in mind, make sure you have a fair amount of basics. Basics are easy when you are in a crunch, and they can be paired with any patterned piece. I recommend making sure you have these basics (or at least a couple of them) for the summer: black and white t-shirt, loose white sweater, black and white shorts, black and white tank top, black blazer, and thin black leggings. You can use these basics all year around, but they are great to pair with pieces during the summer time.

I love black and white, and it is a great trend to turn to when you are in a crunch. Mix your favorite black and white basics together, and you can look polished in seconds! Don't be afraid of it during the summer. Happy shopping.
